For the places of death, where this information is available, the last place of burial is given. In some cases, the grave is located far away from the place of death. This is usually due to the fact that the deceased person was exhumed and transferred to their country of origin. Corresponding information on reburials can be found at the locations concerned.
The figures given below for the individual places of death and burial refer to the deceased persons whose name is known. The number of those actually buried may differ considerably, for example at Bergen-Belsen (10,600 known names compared to at least 52,000 dead).

These people died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1943 and 1945, in the supplementary camp in the nearby Wehrmacht barracks in April 1945 and after the liberation and evacuation from the main camp to the barracks in the emergency hospital and displaced persons camp.
